Fibre and backing
Photos of the front, back and label help with assessment. Wool, viscose, silk, natural fibres and glued backings should not automatically receive the same treatment as synthetic carpets. Fringes and damaged edges require particular care.
Assess on-site suitability
On-site suitability depends on the rug material, the floor beneath it and the available drying space. We also check how to protect the floor from moisture. Some rugs need specialist workshop washing. We do not currently offer collection.
Area and furniture
Provide length, width, pile height and accessible area. For fitted carpets, agree walkways and furniture handling beforehand. Heavy cupboards are not automatically moved. Rust, dye transfer and faded traffic lanes may remain visible after cleaning.
Check the rug and the floor beneath it
For assessment, send the length, width and photographs of the face, backing and label. Show fringes, loose edges or damaged backing. The floor underneath matters too: moisture must not reach sensitive wood or another vulnerable surface unnoticed.
A knotted wool rug, flat synthetic runner and rug with glued backing have different constructions. Fibre content alone does not establish suitability. With sensitive dyes, unknown backing or instructions prohibiting wet treatment, we explain when on-site cleaning is unsuitable.
What on-site rug cleaning involves
For a suitable rug, we first remove accessible dry soil. Individual stains and heavily used walkways are assessed separately. The next treatment follows the care instructions, colour stability and construction. If extraction is appropriate, the applied solution is recovered with loosened dirt.
On-site treatment is different from washing a rug at a dedicated facility. Collection, washing both sides, repairs and fringe restoration are not automatically included. Furniture standing on the rug limits access; moving heavy objects needs agreement before the visit.
Measure the area and plan when it can be used
For a rectangular rug, length multiplied by width in metres gives its area in square metres. For an irregular shape, send dimensions and a full photograph. The rate per square metre and minimum order appear below; any additional work and travel must be clear in the total quote.
Leave the rug in the agreed drying position. Do not roll or stack it while damp. Plan for pets, walkways and furniture that will be returned later. Contact us about new ripples, colour rings or unusual dampness instead of soaking the rug again yourself.
