Confirm that the furniture allows the method
Find the furniture manufacturer’s care instructions. Permission for a water-based product does not always permit extraction: application and moisture limits matter. Include hire, travel and your time
Alongside the hire charge, there may be a recommended product, collection and return journeys, preparation and cleaning of the equipment itself. Deposit, return and included-accessory conditions depend on the provider. Check them instead of assuming that everything is included. A comparison with a professional service is meaningful only when the full scope is understood.
Include the period when the furniture will be unavailable. Returning the machine in the evening does not mean the sofa will be dry by then. If it is your only bed or guests arrive the next day, that constraint may matter more than the hire price. You do not need to price every minute of personal time; assess whether a workable window exists.
Follow both product and equipment instructions
The cleaner must suit the furniture and the machine. A product meant for hand application is not automatically intended for an extractor. Spraying and recovery are different actions
Extraction combines solution application with recovery. Depending on the model, the manual may describe passes without further spraying to remove residual liquid. Follow your machine’s procedure rather than copying another model’s switches or operating habits. Understand when the solution is being delivered and when the unit is recovering only before the attachment touches the sofa.
If recovery becomes abnormal, stop and consult the manual for checks such as tank condition, connections and user-accessible components. Do not compensate for poor collection with more water. Repeatedly wetting one mark can complicate drying while the mark itself may be a permanent colour change. Continuing in that situation does not necessarily bring the desired result closer.
Drying continues after the machine is returned
Leave the upholstery uncovered and provide appropriate air exchange. Do not cover damp cushions with a throw or stack them tightly. Whether they can be positioned separately depends on their construction and instructions. Concentrated hot air is not a universal shortcut; material restrictions continue to apply after cleaning as well as during it.
Check seams and thicker sections before returning the sofa to use. A surface that feels dry does not establish identical conditions throughout every component. When to stop cleaning
